Resource Teaching Posts for 2015-2016

The Irish Primary Principals’ Network, the professional organisation representing 6,600 Principals and Deputy Principals in the 26 counties, welcomes the certainty that today’s announcement of next year’s allocation of resource teaching posts for children with complex needs, brings to schools.

Schools will now be in a position to plan for provision based on this revised allocation before the current school year comes to a close.

However, an opportunity to restore the 15% of resource hours which were lost due to cutbacks in recent years has been passed up which is unfortunate.

Although there is an increase of 237 posts for the coming school year, these posts will merely cater for the requirements of the additional children with needs coming into the system due to population growth. The additional posts will not substantially alter the current deficit in teaching supports for children with significant needs.
