Letter to Principals re Fundraising for Schools

Dear Principal,

You are aware that since 2007, IPPN is actively campaigning to achieve a significant increase in operational funding for Primary Schools.

In association with the National Parents' Council (NPC), we have designed a short 3 minute survey for parents. This survey is now accessible on both www.educationopinion.ie and www.npc.ie. The information arising from this survey will be crucial in strengthening our case for the proper resourcing of schools.

We would appreciate if you could encourage all the parents in your school to complete this survey. We have included below a link to a sample letter which you will hopefully copy and distribute to all parents.

We are aware that this request has workload implications for you. However, we ask that you support this initiative as it will provide us with significant leverage in our future negotiations with Government. If this campaign is successful, Parents, Children, Teachers and Principals will all benefit.

Is sinne le meas

Letter to Parents re Survey on Fundraising for Schools

Click here to Download & Print Sample Letter

Dear Parent,

Your child's primary school depends on fundraising and contributions from parents as it doesn't receive enough state funding to cover all its operational costs. Water charges have recently been imposed on schools and as a result, the short fall in funding will become an even greater problem.

The Irish Primary Principals' Network (IPPN) and the National Parents Council (NPC) have come together to carry out a National Survey of parents. We want to know how you feel about having to fundraise and give voluntary contributions to support the operating costs of your child's primary school.

Both the NPC and IPPN strongly urge you as parents to complete this survey as it will be a powerful bargaining tool in our negotiations with Government to increase funding for primary schools.

To complete this survey, you must visit www.EducationOpinion.ie or www.npc.ie - then click on Parents' Survey. This is an anonymous exercise and will take no more than 3 minutes to complete.

Both the NPC and the IPPN are very grateful for your co-operation in completing this survey as it will help us work on your behalf to secure free primary education for your child.

Thanking you sincerely,

Áine Lynch, Chief Executive Officer, National Parents' Council

Seán Cottrell, Director, Irish Primary Principals' Network
