Do I need broadband to complete an on-line course?
We would highly recommend that participants would have access to broadband when participating on an on-line course. Having broadband will ensure that you can view the video and streaming presentations throughout the course. Not having broadband will result in these resources loading 20 times more slowly which may become frustrating.
What specifics do you need on your computer to access the courses?
Web Brower Information
You will need access to the internet ideally over a broadband connection. Learning+ (the course delivery package), is best viewed through a modern web browser, such as Internet Explorer 8, Mozilla Firefox and other similar browsers.
If you are using a Macintosh computer (Mac), we are recommending that you use the internet browser Firefox. You can easily install the browser on your Mac - go to www.getfirefox.com. The download is free.
Office Package Information
Many of the documents that are used in courses will be from the Microsoft Office suite e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint. Some courses may have documents in Adobe Acrobat format (.pdf). Adobe Reader can be downloaded for free on the internet.
- If you do not have Word, you can download a Microsoft Word viewer
- If you do not have Excel, you can download a Microsoft Excel viewer
- if you do not have PowerPoint, you can download a Microsoft PowerPoint viewer
Some courses may have multimedia animations created using Macromedia Flash that require you to have Shockwave on your PC which can be downloaded for free from the internet.
Finally, some courses will require the use of a media player (to view Video Lectures for example) or Real Player.
