DES Circular 72/2014 has introduced improvements to the operation of the Supplementary Redeployment Panel for schools for the 2015/2016 school year.

Boards of Management (BoMs) are now permitted to invite teachers on the relevant supplementary panel to express an interest in a permanent post in their school using EducationPosts.ie.  Key requirements outlined in the circular include the following:

  • Teachers are given a period of 5 calendar days to express an interest in the post
  • A school may fill the post from the list of teachers with supplementary panel rights that have responded to the advert on EducationPosts.ie.  However, it is at the discretion of the BoM whether they wish to supplement their list with teachers who have supplementary panel rights but have not responded to the advert on EducationPosts.ie
  • If no teachers on the relevant supplementary panel express an interest in the post, the BoM is required to extend the application closing date by an additional two calendar days. If after this period, no teacher has expressed an interest in the post, the school may proceed to fill the permanent vacancy using normal recruitment practices (Appendix D, Constitution of Boards & Rules of Procedure, 2011)
  • Where a BoM is proceeding to fill the vacancy using normal recruitment practices, they are required to include the following information in their advert on EducaitonPosts.ie:
    • Date that expressions of interest were sought
    • Date that submission of interests was extended to
    • Confirmation that the school is proceeding to fill the vacancy
