A TINY primary school yesterday joined an elite international band that puts pupils at the cutting edge of new technology in the classroom.

Scoil Naomh Fiachra in Freshford, Co Kilkenny, is already regarded as one of Ireland's most innovative primary schools. Now it has become only the 13th worldwide to be included in the School of the Future programme, sponsored by software giant, Microsoft.

It joins Dunshaughlin Community School in Co Meath as the only other Irish school in the programme, which is aimed at significantly raising the level of technology literacy among staff, pupils and parents.

All of the school's 33 pupils will be provided with new equipment including notebook-size tablet PCs. Our picture shows pupils Laura O'Gorman (7), Leah Walsh (7), Sarah O'Gorman (11) and Jessica Walsh (11) with their message for Junior Minister Jimmy Devins who visited yesterday.
